80% of the total cost of carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) to date has been in the capture of CO2. Reducing capture costs will have a huge impact on the viability of the entire process, and this is where ION is focused.
"Coal is the most abundant fuel source in the U.S., and the dirtiest. But capturing the carbon dioxide that it produces and burying it could make it cleaner...It is imperative that we figure out a way to use coal as cleanly as possible. "

CO2 Capture from Fossil Fuel-Burning Power Plants
- ION’s proprietary RTIL-based solutions offer economically viable and energy efficient solutions to realize CO2 capture on the large scale required in fossil fuel-burning power plants.
- The most promising technologies in development today for CCS are estimated to reduce energy output by 30% or more, drastically increasing costs to electricity users. ION’s technologies cut the cost in half …solving one of the biggest hurdles for the industry.
- The immense volumes of captured CO2 will be valuable to a variety of industries including enhanced oil recovery (EOR), or can be used as raw materials for biofuels, minerals and chemical production.
