Bold Science for Energy

Key Publications by ION’s Scientists

ION’s scientists and advisors have published more than 20 peer-reviewed papers on CO2 capture using room-temperature ionic liquids dating back to 2004.  Collectively, these articles have been cited several hundred times in the literature and related presentations on the use of RTILs for CO2 capture delivered worldwide to technical audiences.

Room-Temperature Ionic Liquid−Amine Solutions: Tunable Solvents for Efficient and Reversible Capture of CO2, Dean Camper, Jason E. Bara, Douglas L. Gin and Richard D. Noble, Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research Volume 47, 2008

The breakthroughs described in this article highlight the initial lab-scale development of the core of ION’s proprietary CO2 capture technology.

Guide to CO2 Separations in Imidazolium-based Room-Temperature Ionic Liquids,
Jason E. Bara, Trevor K. Carlisle, Christopher J. Gabriel, Dean Camper, Alexia Finotello,
Douglas L. Gin and Richard D. Noble, Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, Volume 48, 2009

A handful of scientists were invited to publish review articles on topics of their expertise to commemorate the 100th anniversary of this journal. The article is the first to compile the large amount of data generated by various global research groups on CO2 solubility and selectivity in RTILs, while adding context to the performance of RTILs relative to conventional volatile organic solvents and polymers and an examination of proposed industrial gas separation applications for RTILs.
